Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the relations of locus of control, rumination, and worry with depression and anxiety in a sample of depressed and anxious patients. A second purpose of the study was to examine the mediating role of rumination and worry on the relationship between locus of control with depression and anxiety.
Method: One hundred and twelve patients with major depression and anxiety disorders (58 depressed, 54 anxious) participated in this study. All participants were asked to complete Rotter΄s Locus of Control Scale, Response Styles Scale, Penn State Worry Questionnaire, Beck Depression Inventory, and Beck Anxiety Inventory.
Findings: The results revealed significant correlations between locus of control, rumination, and worry with depression and anxiety. Rumination and worry mediated the relationship between locus of control with depression and anxiety. On the basis of the results of the present study it can be concluded that the relation of locus of control with depression and anxiety is not a simple one but is mediated by other variables such as rumination and worry.

Method: Hence, 30 women among female headed household under the coverage of Varamin city welfare organization were non-randomly selected, and randomly assigned into two groups of experiment and control. Based on Glaser pattern (1965), the experiment group participated in 10 sessions of ninety minutes group reality therapy constituted two times a week, while the control group received no official intervention affecting psychological well-being. Based on Glaser’s reality therapy concepts and in format of group counseling techniques, the intervention pattern used in this study was provided and presented, and Ryff’s scale of psychological well-being questionnaire has been also used for evaluating dependent variant.
Findings: Covariance analysis results demonstrated no significant difference in mean pretest of the two groups, while indicated significant difference in mean posttest for experiment group (p>0.01). In other words, the findings express positive effect of group reality therapy on psychological well-being of female headed household.
