Abstract

Purpose: The present study aims at evaluating the effectiveness of psychotherapy based on the life quality improvement on the reduction of depression of those suffering from complicated grief.
Method: This study used a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population of this study consisted of all clients referring to Kashmar’s counselling centers during 2013-2014, who were suffering from complicated grief according to DSM-V-TR criteria and the clinical interview. The sample consisted of 30 men and women who were selected through convenient sampling method and were randomly assigned into two control and experimental groups. The experimental group received 8 sessions of psychotherapy based on the life quality. The applied instrument was Beck’s Depression Inventory which was used in the pre-test and post-test. The obtained data was analyzed by means of SPSS (Version 22) using covariance analysis.
Findings: The results of ANCOVA revealed that there is a significant difference among the depression mean scores of the experimental and the control group in terms of membership in the post-test with 99% confidence (p< 0/01).
