Abstract

The article describes the development and validation of a new questionnaire to assess family function development based on developmental individual-difference relationship approach (DIR). The content and criterion validity and Cronbach's alpha and test-retest and factor analysis methods were being used to evaluate the questionnaire validity and reliability. Criterion validity through McMaster Family Assessment Device (FA) was also obtained (- 0.75). Principal component analysis was implemented with Varimax rotation analysis. With considering a seven-factor model, 67.25% of the total variance was explained by seven factors. The results of reliability revealed that retest coefficient of developmental functioning family questionnaire is 93%, and the overall Cronbach alpha for this questionnaire is 92%. Moreover, Cronbach's alpha for the subscales of the questionnaire was ranged from 0.53 to 0.72, signifying an acceptable reliability in overall. Consequently, it would be claimed that the developmental functioning family questionnaire, which was developed by researcher, has satisfactory reliability and validity, and can be used in to identify the strengths and weaknesses of family performance.
