Constructivism is a theory of knowing and learning, rather than a theory of teaching. Constructivism is a popular position today not only in mathematics education, but also in developmental psychology, theories of family, psychology of gender and ... This theory and its implication in teaching matematics is describe in this article. It is emphazied that the teacher is a facilitator of learning and proovides situations in which students can engage in collaborative mathematical problem solving in small groups and whole - class discussions of problems, interpratations and solutions.
