Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this research was to investigate the relationship between fear of Covid-19 and health anxiety with mediating neuroticism, behavioral inhibitory system and negative cognitive emotion regulation strategies.

Method: In regard to the purpose, this research was applicable and in regard to procedure, descriptive and it was a correlation study. The study population consisted of all adults aged 18 to 60 in Mashhad city in 2020-2021, among which 450 were selected as samples by available sampling and blocking method. Research instruments included: fear of Covid-19 questionnaire (2020), health anxiety questionnaire (1989), cognitive emotion regulation questionnaire (2010), behavioral activation and inhabition systems scale (1994) and NEO Five Factor Inventory (1992). Analysis method of this study was path analysis which was used to examine the Forecast path of study variables.

Findings: Findings showed that the relationship of fear of Covid-19 could predict health anxiety, both directly and indirectly through neuroticism, behavioral inhibition system and the use of negative strategies of cognitive emotion regulation. It can be concluded that during the Covid-19 pandemic, neuroticism, behavioral inhibition system and consequently, cognitive emotion regulation skill plays a key role in the scale of health anxiety in individuals.
