Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the effectiveness of a treatment based on emotional processing on the improvement of compulsive washing symptoms. This study was a single case experimental design, which was conducted with multiple baselines.Using convenience sampling, two subjects were selected and were treated. Before treatment (baseline) and during the sessions as well as a one-month follow up, the subjects completed the Maudsley Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory (MOCI). Data were analyzed through visual analysis, the improvement rate, and the effect size. Findings showed that in subjects with compulsive washing, the improvement rate was.54. On the other hand, for the first and the second subjects, the effect sizes were 1.49 and 2.13 respectively. The target paper suggests that a treatment based on emotional processing is an effective way of treating compulsive washing. It causes cognitive changes that result in positive feelings and symptom relief respectively
