Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of a combination of acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness methods on cognitive flexibility and dysfunctional attitudes among orphan adolescent girls.
Method: The method of this study was quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest and control group. The research sample included 24 orphan adolescent girls than among orphan adolescent girls who lived in Orphanages in Mashhad and responded to researcher recall that were selected by volunteer sampling and randomly assigned into two groups, which are experimental and control groups. The group-based intervention was performed in the experimental group in 8 sessions. The instrument used in this study includes Denis and Vender Val questionnaire of cognitive flexibility and Dual sander and Borton questionnaire to which the participants responded in the pretest and posttest. Data analyzed using analysis of multivariate variance.
Findings: The results showed that there was a significant difference (p<0.001) between the experimental and control groups in terms of cognitive flexibility and inefficient attitude (self-centered perfectionism). So a combination of acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness methods increases cognitive flexibility and reduces inefficient attitude (self-centered perfectionism) among orphan adolescent girls in the experimental group, compared with the control group
