Components of loneliness in relation to friends in adolescent girls: phenomenology research

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine The Components of loneliness in relation to friends in adolescent girls based on their lived experiences.
Method:  This study is a qualitative and phenomenological study has been used to implement it. The sampling was targeted So that 135 UCLA Loneliness Scale was implemented on teenage girls with a mean age of 16 and 30 people who had high scores on the loneliness were selected as the study population. The main research tool was an interview and after 15 interviews and coded by using of Grounded theory, the data was reached to saturation point.
Findings: The components of loneliness in relation to friends in adolescent girls was respectively: 1) the feeling of not being accepted and not belonging to a group of friends 2) lack of comfort and having strict boundaries with friends 3) low quantity and quality of friendship 4) The importance of evaluating friends and peers 5) restricting factors in communication. The results of this study indicate that Cognitive biases related to adolescent cognitive development, as well as factors such as the inability to communicate effectively with friends and generally distrust, affects Re-affiliation Motive in adolescents, and leads to a more distance than friends and going to chronic loneliness.
