Effectiveness of emotion-focused group therapy in increasing hope and interpersonal forgiveness in the love Trauma Syndrome

Abstract

Purpose: Love Trauma Syndrome is a set of signs and symptoms that occur after a romantic relationship collapses, disrupting the function of the person in many fields, and arise problems such as loss of hope and unforgiveness. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of group emotion-focused therapy on increasing hope and interpersonal forgiveness in the love trauma syndrome.
Method: This study was a quasi-experimental, pretest-posttest with a control group. The statistical population is the male and female students of Mashhad Universities, who have the love trauma syndrome. The sampling method is purposeful and voluntary. Eventually, 30 of students entered the project according to the criteria and randomly divided into two groups of experiment and control. During the intervention 6 students canceled therapy. So each experimental and control were 12 students. The experimental group gets treated in 10 sessions and the control group did not receive treatment during this period.
Findings: The average of both components increased in post-test compared to the pre-test and a significant difference was observed in the experimental group compared to the control group in the post-test (P <0.05). Finally, based on the results, it can be concluded that emotion-focused therapy can significantly increase hope and interpersonal forgiveness among clients.
